Job description
Role Overview and Key Duties
The Library Assistant role involves a combination of manual and digital tasks within the library setting to support effective service delivery. This position requires actively fostering a collaborative and positive workplace aligned with the Charity's mission of "Making Life Better" along with its i-care values to enhance morale, productivity, and overall performance.
The assistant will work closely with team members to provide and promote library and information services accessible to all age groups, with a particular emphasis on teenagers through events and promotional activities. Daily tasks include managing library routines such as shelving, processing, and repairing books and other stock.
Maintaining and updating databases and reservation systems is an important part of the job, along with assisting both pupils and staff in utilizing physical and electronic library resources effectively. The role also involves monitoring user behaviour within the library to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
Additional Responsibilities and Professional Development
- Undertake any additional duties to maintain efficient and effective library services across the network.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute towards continuous improvement efforts within the Library and High Life Highland organization.
- Participate in training sessions, both online and face-to-face.
- Commit to sustainability by minimizing waste and supporting the organization's environmental values in all tasks.
- Provide assistance to other divisions within High Life Highland on special projects, training programs, or during workforce shortages such as holidays or sickness, demonstrating cross-functional teamwork.
- Maintain awareness of risk management responsibilities as outlined by the HLH Risk Policy and related guidance.
- Successful applicants must undergo a Disclosure Scotland PVG check as a condition of employment.
