Lead Technical Architect

About the Role

ELEK Software is seeking a Lead Technical Architect to lead architecture and technical strategy for our global electrical power engineering software suite. This mission-critical role focuses on developing AI-native engineering applications, designed from the ground up with AI integration rather than appended later. Our software is utilized by engineers in over 50 countries worldwide.

The successful candidate will primarily focus on software architecture, simultaneously remaining hands-on with AI development and guiding multiple engineering teams. While the product and electrical engineering expertise are provided by specific teams, this role demands strong architectural leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead ownership of software architecture and long-term technology direction across our range of products.
• Architect and develop AI-native platforms and applications, encompassing advanced web APIs, large language model (LLM) integration, agent orchestration, information retrieval, inference mechanisms, and performance evaluation in live environments.
• Design and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS, ensuring scalability, CI/CD pipeline efficiency, security measures, and cost-effectiveness.
• Maintain active involvement in coding and technical delivery.
• Lead and nurture engineering teams responsible for multiple products, managing priorities and ensuring delivery excellence.
• Recruit, train, mentor, and support engineers as the teams expand.
• Define and enforce engineering standards covering code quality, testing processes, security protocols, and development workflows.
• Balance diverse product development roadmaps while strategically investing in platform and architectural growth.
• Collaborate with Product and technical leads to transform domain-specific requirements into robust software designs.
• Make informed build vs buy decisions and actively manage technical debt.
• Implement AI-driven tooling across all stages of the software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Demonstrated expertise as a software architect with end-to-end ownership of commercial product architectures.
• Strong, hands-on experience with AWS environments, including scalable deployments, continuous integration/delivery, and cloud security.
• Proficient in designing and implementing production-grade web APIs and backend systems, including security, version management, and scalability considerations.
• Proven track record in building operational AI solutions involving LLM integration, agent workflows, data retrieval, and orchestration.
• Experienced in leading engineering teams while managing delivery across multiple products or product lines concurrently.
• Experienced in hiring, mentoring, and fostering engineering talent.
• Comfortable working in environments where deep domain experts provide nuanced requirements.
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the insight to prioritize development efforts sensibly.
• Committed to staying technically engaged through ongoing hands-on coding.
