BJAK develops technology platforms serving millions of users in Southeast Asia. As our offerings grow, we seek seasoned technical leaders capable of tackling challenging engineering problems and elevating the standards within their teams.
The Lead Software Engineer plays a key role in defining the technical strategy and delivery for significant products and systems. This position demands active contribution—designing systems, coding, and overseeing critical engineering projects from conception through deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the technical design and delivery for important products, architectures, and engineering efforts.
- Create scalable and dependable systems spanning backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with the engineering team by writing code, building prototypes, reviewing code, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.
- Lead architecture decisions balancing performance, scalability, reliability, cost-efficiency, and maintenance.
- Translate unclear product challenges into defined technical strategies and actionable plans.
- Enhance engineering quality by improving system design, testing procedures, security measures, visibility, and development standards.
- Guide pivotal technical projects and mentor engineers across various teams.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum of seven years developing and delivering production software systems.
- Extensive knowledge in backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
- Proven expertise in designing complex, high-scale software architectures.
- Strong, hands-on programming skills with an enthusiasm for continuous coding involvement.
- Demonstrated experience leading major engineering initiatives from design phases through production deployment.
- Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs wisely, influence engineering teams, and troubleshoot intricate production issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience growing engineering teams, scaling systems, or refining development practices during organizational expansion.
- Familiarity working across multiple products, markets, or international locations.

This position is fully remote. BJAK hires worldwide and operates across several countries and time zones. Applicants must be comfortable collaborating in a distributed, dynamic international environment with English as the primary language of communication.
