Role Overview

The Lead HR Business Partner will collaborate closely with company leadership and staff to develop and implement human resource strategies that support business objectives. This role is responsible for the management of HR policies, providing advice and support to both employees and management on HR issues. Key duties include facilitating organizational and leadership development activities, tackling root causes of employee relations challenges, and potentially overseeing talent management and succession planning processes. The position also involves providing change management leadership and handling various personnel activities such as transfers, status changes, onboarding, exit interviews, and disciplinary actions while ensuring compliance with federal and provincial labor laws.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to operational leadership by delivering strategic guidance on talent growth, organizational performance, culture, and employee engagement, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Lead and assist with essential talent management programs including workforce planning, talent development, succession strategies, performance evaluation, and compensation management.
  • Collaborate with leaders to design and refine organizational structures, job roles, and talent strategies that facilitate business expansion, operational efficiency, and workforce productivity.
  • Provide expert coaching to leaders on employee relations, performance management, leadership effectiveness, conflict resolution, and career development while maintaining compliance with policies and labor regulations.
  • Support recruitment initiatives by working with leadership to identify hiring needs, develop recruitment plans, and secure required talent.
  • Assist managers in enhancing workforce performance through structured goal-setting, coaching, and feedback mechanisms.
  • Analyze HR data, workforce metrics, and organizational trends to derive insights and propose solutions that boost engagement, retention, productivity, and overall performance.
  • Identify issues affecting employee engagement and implement strategies to improve the overall employee experience.
  • Build strong partnerships with HR centers of excellence and other HR Business Partners to ensure cohesive delivery of organizational HR initiatives.
  • Coach and develop managers on leadership skills and conflict management techniques.
  • Lead and contribute to HR projects, change initiatives, and organizational transformation efforts, applying change management frameworks to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Work with leaders to evaluate organizational effectiveness through workforce planning, talent utilization, succession readiness, and organizational design.
  • Partner with health and safety teams to cultivate a safety-focused culture, support wellness programs, and ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations.

Desired Experience and Skills

  • Possession of CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader) designation is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience as an HR Business Partner, preferably in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, influencing, coaching, and consulting capabilities.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and maintain composure in a dynamic, high-pressure setting, while prioritizing safety, compliance, and employee satisfaction.
  • Experience analyzing trends and HR metrics effectively.
  • Exceptionally high standards of confidentiality, integrity, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint with strong data analysis and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with HR systems such as PeopleSoft, SuccessFactors, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience in labor relations is an asset.
  • Background supporting manufacturing, technical lab, or operational settings is preferred.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Comprehensive expertise in the HR field, potentially with project management knowledge.
  • Bachelor's degree coupled with at least 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Alternatively, a graduate degree with a minimum of 7 years related experience.
  • If without degree, a minimum of 13 years relevant experience is required.
  • The salary range for this position, based in Ontario, Canada, spans from 115000 to 140000 CAD annually.
