We are seeking a Lead Engineer for the Chassis Spring and Damper module located in Pune, India.

Role Summary

The role involves comprehensive ownership of the air spring and damper module system and its components throughout the product development lifecycle. This encompasses the stages from initial concept and requirements setting, detailed design phases, validation efforts, to launch support. The Lead Engineer will guide technical decisions, ensure seamless integration with adjacent vehicle systems, oversee supplier technical contributions, and achieve targeted quality, cost, weight, and schedule objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take complete responsibility for system/module including defining architecture, setting targets, cascading requirements, and ensuring traceability.
  • Helm the design strategy and manage integration with related vehicle interfaces such as packaging, kinematics, NVH, and electrical/electronic systems when applicable.
  • Lead the execution of methods like DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), DVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report), and conduct thorough design reviews to guarantee robust design releases and controlled changes.
  • Drive the strategic planning and execution of virtual and physical validation tests covering durability, environmental effects, corrosion, and abuse conditions, followed by effective correlation.
  • Provide technical leadership for suppliers by supporting RFQs, preparing technical specifications, overseeing design reviews, resolving issues, and ensuring readiness for APQP/PPAP processes.
  • Manage program execution by handling risks, assessing maturity and milestones, spearheading root cause analyses using 8D methodology, and implementing corrective measures.
  • Lead and mentor engineering teams by allocating work tasks and ensuring deliveries align with plans.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum 6 to 10 years of pertinent experience in automotive product development, specifically with passenger car chassis or driveline systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of system interfaces, manufacturing feasibility, and design release procedures.
  • Proven ability to lead supplier partnerships and cross-functional teams independently.

Tools and Technologies

  • Proficiency in CAD software: CATIA V5 and V6.
  • Expertise in CAE tools such as ANSYS.
  • Experience with pre-processing and post-processing software: HyperMesh and/or ANSA.
  • Familiarity with PLM solutions like Teamcenter or ENOVIA.
  • Application of quality and delivery frameworks including DFMEA, DVP&R, and root cause analysis techniques like 8D and 5-Why.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience dealing with Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) or Hybrid systems is advantageous.
  • Background in structured product development environments employing methodologies such as PDP, APQP, and PPAP.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Strong communication skills with ability to manage stakeholders across functions.
  • Analytical and structured problem-solving aptitude using 8D and 5-Why methods combined with data-driven decision-making.
  • Sense of ownership, meticulous attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to delivery.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with global suppliers and multi-location teams.
