About Immutable

Immutable is an innovative and rapidly expanding platform designed to power the next generation of gaming experiences by integrating cutting-edge technology with performance and digital ownership. Founded in 2018, it quickly achieved unicorn status with a valuation reaching AUD 3.5 billion, supporting over 700 games and partnering with prominent industry leaders like Ubisoft. The platform hosts over 6 million users through Immutable Passport, enabling seamless cross-game identities, and has launched one of its fastest-growing SaaS products, Immutable Audience.

Role Overview

The company is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to drive the development of data infrastructure powering Immutable Audience, an AI-enhanced marketing and growth platform tailored to assist gaming studios in acquiring and retaining players. This role involves end-to-end responsibility for data ingestion, processing, modeling, and presentation to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a new real-time event streaming platform utilizing Kafka, Flink, and ClickHouse to support large-scale segmentation and targeting.
  • Define and guide the technical strategy as the data platform and products scale.
  • Manage warehouse datasets and data transformations using BigQuery, dbt, SQL, and Python from start to finish.
  • Establish robust standards for data quality, testing, monitoring, and observability for both streaming and batch data pipelines, optimizing for cost and latency at large volumes.
  • Enhance team capabilities through code reviews, mentoring, and developing reusable best practices.
  • Incorporate AI tools and automation into workflows and platform features, including coding assistants and quality check automation.

Candidate Profile

  • Solid expertise in data engineering fundamentals, including pipeline construction, data modeling, and understanding failure modes and scaling.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for production environments.
  • Experience designing and scaling end-to-end production data pipelines, with some exposure to streaming processing considered advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge in modern batch data technologies such as dbt, cloud data warehouses, and orchestrators.
  • Competency in data modeling suited for analytics and product requirements at high scale.
  • Hands-on experience managing event-based datasets at a billion-row scale.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP and infrastructure as code principles.
  • A mindset oriented towards data quality, including systematic testing, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Proven ability to set architectural direction and mentor senior engineering staff.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong ownership and pragmatic decision-making capabilities.
  • Adaptability to ambiguous and shifting product priorities without comprehensive specifications.

Technical Environment

The team’s current stack features AWS and GCP BigQuery, dbt for transformations, a freshly developed Kafka/Flink/ClickHouse event-streaming infrastructure, and AI tools such as Cursor and Claude Code.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience deploying streaming data systems in production supported by Kafka, Flink, or ClickHouse OLAP stores.
  • Background knowledge in domains like gaming, advertising technology, or marketing technology event data.
  • Demonstrated use of AI to enhance productivity and improve team-wide AI proficiency.

Employee Benefits

  • Competitive global base salary packages with long-term fund contributions.
  • Employee Stock Options (ESOP) to share product success.
  • Flexible work arrangements including hybrid presence at Sydney office or remote work supported by a global WeWork All-Access pass.
  • Daily fresh lunch provided at Sydney CBD office.
  • Quarterly celebration awards and social dinners.
  • USD $500 allowance for home office setup.
  • USD $600 annual stipend for internet and phone bills.
  • Quarterly $75 allowance for remote employees to engage socially locally.
  • Medical and 401K insurance support for US employees; Novated Leasing options for Australian employees.
  • Annual professional development budget of up to USD $1,350 for courses and events.
  • Free access to Udemy online courses.
  • USD $800 yearly wellness allowance and 24/7 access to counseling services for employees and families.
  • ClassPass discounted memberships and free Breethe membership for mindfulness.
  • Generous parental leave policies with gender-neutral 12 weeks paid leave plus additional leave for birthing parents, miscarriage, and IVF treatments.
  • Extra paid leave days including 2 annual leave days at year-end and a paid birthday leave.
