Role Overview

As the Lead AI Security Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the secure development, deployment, and operation of AI and data science solutions. This senior position requires hands-on leadership and expertise to define technical direction and security standards, influencing teams and mentoring engineers to safely adopt cutting-edge AI technologies at scale and speed.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and maintain security strategies, frameworks, and standards across the AI and machine learning lifecycle addressing risks such as prompt injection, data poisoning, model theft, and adversarial inputs.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and data scientists on secure AI methodologies, fostering a strong security culture throughout the organisation.
• Lead threat modeling initiatives for AI products, foundation and agentic models, integrations, and emerging technologies, translating complex risks into actionable mitigations.
• Collaborate with data science, engineering, application security, and security architecture teams to embed security into platforms, pipelines, and development processes.
• Assess new AI tools, platforms, and SaaS products, advising leadership on adoption strategies and the broader security roadmap.
• Monitor evolving AI threats, develop policies, govern security measures, and lead incident responses related to AI and machine learning systems.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong hands-on experience in security engineering within AI, machine learning, application security, or cloud-native environments, coupled with a proven history of managing complex technical projects.
• Deep understanding of modern AI systems, including generative AI, foundation models, agentic architectures, and the machine learning lifecycle.
• Expertise in identifying and managing AI-specific security risks such as prompt injection, data leaks, model tampering, poisoning attacks, and adversarial manipulations.
• Proficiency in advanced threat modeling, capable of distilling ambiguous risks into practical security controls and leading methodology adoption.
• Leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers and effectively collaborating with senior stakeholders across engineering, data science, and security domains.
• Excellent judgment, curiosity, and communication skills enabling clear evaluations of emerging technologies and influence over both technical and non-technical audiences.
