Job description
Position Overview
We are looking for a meticulous and committed Law Clerk to assist our legal team primarily in litigation activities. The candidate will support court-related processes, office administration, and engage with clients and government agencies, ensuring adherence to confidentiality and legal standards.
Primary Duties
- Support litigators by organizing case files, managing documents during court sessions, and maintaining the team’s court schedule.
- Retrieve and examine records from relevant sections, taking comprehensive notes and obtaining certified copies.
- Track court dates through both electronic and physical means, securing all required documents ahead of deadlines.
- Manage court fee payments and handle court logo collections.
- Oversee legal stationery and essential supplies for daily office functions.
- Coordinate document exchanges between legal units and other departments, maintaining accurate log systems for all correspondence.
- Update both physical and digital case files to ensure current and accessible information.
- Assist with filing court papers and preparing case documentation.
- Perform clerical duties designated by the legal team to streamline office workflow.
- Undertake field visits to government offices, legal authorities, and external litigators as directed.
- Gather supplemental documentation or perform research required from outside sources.
- Conduct legal research including case law, statutes, and precedents relevant to litigation and corporate matters.
- Assist with drafting, proofreading, and verifying citations in legal documents such as briefs and memoranda.
- Prepare files and materials for trials, hearings, depositions, and client meetings.
- Provide comprehensive support to attorneys throughout litigation or transactional phases, managing multiple cases or assignments effectively while respecting deadlines.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client information and comply with organizational policies.
Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent organizational capabilities with ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in the regional languages relevant to operational areas (e.g., Bengali for Kolkata, Marathi for Mumbai).
- Proficiency with legal research platforms, e-discovery tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Exceptional attention to detail, including proofreading and document editing skills.
- Ability to operate both autonomously and collaboratively within a fast-paced setting.
- Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration with team members, clients, and external contacts.
- Time management skills with aptitude to manage substantial workloads independently.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's or associate degree in legal studies, criminal justice, paralegal studies, or a related discipline.
- Preferably at least two years of relevant legal experience in law clerking or a comparable support role.
Work Environment and Conditions
- Full-time role requiring occasional overtime to meet case deadlines.
- Some travel expected to government offices, legal authorities, and offices of external litigators.
- Work performed mainly in office settings with regular court visits and field activities.
