Overview
The Laundry Application Expert provides specialized technical support for commercial and industrial laundry processes to enhance washing efficiency, chemical utilization, equipment performance, and consistent quality delivery. This role involves programming and optimizing tunnel washers and washer extractors, carrying out chemical titrations and water analyses, developing tailored wash programs, and monitoring key performance indicators to boost laundry operation effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Configure, track, and optimize tunnel washer and washer extractor operations to maximize cleaning efficiency, productivity, and operational quality.
- Create and modify wash cycles based on laundry classification, fabric types, customer needs, and operational guidelines.
- Choose and dose laundry chemicals appropriately, ensuring cleaning performance aligns with fabric care requirements.
- Conduct titrations during wash cycles to validate chemical concentrations and dosing accuracy according to standards.
- Perform water quality analysis to support program adjustments and chemical applications based on water characteristics.
- Analyze wash processes and recommend improvements to increase productivity, quality, and reduce resource consumption.
- Carry out periodic quality control checks focusing on cleanliness, stain removal, garment preservation, and rewash frequency; suggest corrective measures as needed.
- Monitor KPIs such as productivity, wash turnaround, chemical usage, water and energy consumption, quality compliance, and prepare detailed reports.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot equipment issues affecting washing process efficiency and quality.
- Educate laundry teams on wash programs, chemical handling, standard procedures, and quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance and support to customers, understanding their specific laundry requirements and offering solution-oriented recommendations.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate laundry operations, identify performance gaps, and suggest enhancement opportunities.
- Compile technical and performance reports documenting processes, quality outcomes, challenges, and proposed optimizations.
- Maintain strong customer relations by delivering professional onsite technical services and customized laundry process solutions.
Performance Indicators
- Wash quality metrics including stain removal effectiveness, cleanliness, garment care, and rewash rates.
- Operational efficiency factors such as productivity, cycle time, chemical dosing precision, and water/energy usage.
- Technical support responsiveness, issue resolution speed, and completion of site assessments.
- Training effectiveness measured by staff competence and adherence to SOPs and chemical application protocols.
- Customer satisfaction and successful adoption of technical recommendations.
- Continuous process improvements that lead to enhanced productivity, reduced consumption, and elevated wash quality.
Competencies
Operates independently within defined guidelines to configure and troubleshoot laundry processes. Engages with multidisciplinary teams and customers professionally. Handles complex challenges related to equipment, chemicals, and wash processes with analytical problem-solving. Possesses strong technical knowledge of laundry applications and communicates effectively to drive continuous operational improvements.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Textile Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
- Certifications in industrial laundry, textile care, chemical applications, water treatment, or related technologies are advantageous.
- At least 5 to 7 years' experience in industrial or commercial laundry operations, focusing on application support, chemical dosing, and process optimization.
- Proven hands-on expertise with tunnel washers and washer extractors.
- Strong knowledge of laundry chemicals, titration, water quality analysis, and wash program development.
- Experience in enhancing laundry productivity, quality control, water and energy conservation.
- Capability to provide customer-facing technical support and conduct operational assessments.
- Skill in training staff on laundry procedures, chemical use, equipment operation, and safety standards.
Key Relationships and Reporting
- Reports directly to the Laundry Manager.
- Liaises internally with Laundry Operations, Engineering/Technical Services, Sales, Supply Chain, and Warehouse teams.
- Collaborates externally with laundry customers and customer operations teams.
Working Environment and Conditions
- Primarily field-based involving frequent visits to industrial laundry sites complemented by office work focused on technical planning and reporting.
- Full-time schedule with flexibility to support various technical needs and customer operations.
- Hands-on role interacting regularly with laundry equipment, chemicals, and water monitoring systems while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
