Role Summary

The Land Management Advisor role within Water and Land prioritizes fostering environmental change through collaboration with individuals, communities, rūnanga, industry, and government. The position involves supporting landowners to implement sustainable practices aligned with the Canterbury Water Management Strategy, delivering collaborative place-based programmes, and promoting best land management techniques to protect land, water, and biodiversity.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing collaborative place-based environmental initiatives.
• Offer technical guidance to farmers and landowners regarding sustainable land management methods.
• Establish and maintain productive relationships with rūnanga, industry groups, stakeholders, and community organizations.
• Lead community engagement efforts that inspire behavioural changes supporting environmental outcomes.
• Support projects aimed at conserving land, water, and native biodiversity.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a passion for aiding communities in achieving environmental goals and be comfortable engaging with diverse groups. Enjoyment of fieldwork, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate technical and regulatory details clearly to landowners are essential.

Qualifications and Experience

• A tertiary qualification in agriculture, resource management, environmental science, or a related discipline.
• Up to three years of practical experience in areas such as farming, sustainability, biodiversity, ecology, or resource management.
• Strong stakeholder relationship and engagement capabilities.
• Experience collaborating to address complex challenges effectively.
• Ability to clearly convey technical and regulatory information.
• Experience with farmers, primary industry groups, community organizations, or environmental programs is advantageous.
• Project delivery and facilitation experience are desired.
• A valid Class 1 driver's license is required due to travel needs across Canterbury.
