Laboratory Officer - Remanufacturing Process Technology

About the Role

The Remanufacturing Process Technology team at ARTC is looking for a diligent and proactive Laboratory Officer to oversee the smooth and safe functioning of the machining workshop and laboratory. This position demands a commitment to maintaining exemplary 5S standards, championing health, safety, and environmental practices, and actively participating on the Workshop Committee. The role encompasses a blend of workshop operations, equipment and inventory management, project assistance, procurement coordination, maintenance scheduling, usage tracking, and asset documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate machinery and laboratory tools safely to support research and industrial projects.
• Prepare necessary materials, tools, and fixtures for machining trials and experiments.
• Monitor ongoing experiments, gather process-related data, and assist in dimensional and surface quality assessments.
• Manage procurement, delivery, and stock control of equipment, tooling, consumables, and general workshop resources.
• Organize preventive and corrective maintenance activities, including mechanical and electrical installations for new machinery.
• Maintain and update equipment logs and usage records to optimize capacity planning and resource distribution.
• Supervise asset disposals, equipment relocations, storage management, and related documentation.
• Ensure top-tier 5S housekeeping standards, proactively identify hazards, evaluate risks, and suggest improvements related to workshop and lab safety.
• Contribute actively to the Workshop Committee, supporting health, safety, and environmental initiatives, conducting audits, and driving continuous improvements.
• Prepare precise reports, records, and documentation utilizing Microsoft Office tools.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proven hands-on experience in engineering workshops, machining environments, or laboratory settings.
• Practical skills in operating workshop or laboratory equipment and supporting project-related experimental tasks.
• Deep understanding of 5S methodology and a proactive attitude towards health and safety, risk detection, and safe work practices.
• Certification in BISAFE or similar safety training is a plus.
• Experience managing equipment maintenance schedules, procurement processes, asset tracking, or utilization monitoring is preferred.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office for documentation, reporting, and resource management.
• Able to work autonomously, prioritize tasks effectively, and collaborate well with a broad range of stakeholders including researchers, contractors, and industry collaborators.
