Role Overview

The Laboratory Assistant is vital to the smooth functioning of the Device Solution Research Singapore (DSRS) center. This role encompasses comprehensive oversight of advanced semiconductor and optical packaging lab facilities, including the upkeep of high-precision equipment, management of material inventories, and strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The role serves as a technical liaison to support R&D engineers by maintaining an ideal testing environment and delivering insightful technical feedback during prototype characterizations.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and support assembly, metrology, and optical test equipment within the laboratory.
• Conduct routine operational checks and preventive maintenance on tools to ensure peak performance and minimize downtime.
• Manage inventory tracking and timely procurement of standard lab consumables and equipment-associated supplies.
• Organize and monitor prototype sample inventories.
• Assist and coordinate with external vendors in procurement activities.
• Ensure laboratory infrastructure is safe, fully compliant, and operates effectively.
• Take charge of all laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance issues.
• Compile raw experimental data and generate lab-level test reports for Singapore Research engineers, imparting proactive technical feedback observed during testing processes.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering disciplines such as materials science, electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or physics.
• At least two years of experience managing cleanroom laboratory environments.
• Practical experience with optical assembly tools including optical testers, active optical 6-axis aligners, passive pick-and-place machines, wire bonders, die bonders, flip-chip bonders, epoxy dispensers, and UV curing instruments is advantageous.
• Sound understanding of optical packaging, optical alignment technologies, and heterogeneous integration of photonics and electronic integrated circuits using advanced packaging methods is preferred.
• Knowledge in crystal process optics (CPO), optics process integration, and characterization is beneficial.
• Familiarity with packaging materials such as UV and conductive epoxies, solders, 3D printing substances, polymers, glass, ceramics, and magnetic materials.
• Experience with active and passive alignment of micro-lens arrays or fiber arrays is a plus.
• Excellent teamwork, verbal, and written communication skills.
