Role Summary
The Junior Accountant position is a full-time onsite role located in Edmonton, Alberta. The selected candidate will perform routine accounting functions including recording journal entries, maintaining general ledger accounts, reconciling bank and credit card statements, processing accounts payable and receivable, preparing fundamental financial reports, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing procedures. This role ensures the accuracy and organization of financial data and documentation, and addresses both internal and client queries related to transactions and balances. The Junior Accountant will also operate accounting software, adhere to established processes, and collaborate with senior team members on projects and audits.
Qualifications and Skills
- Basic proficiency in bookkeeping, general ledger upkeep, and preparing straightforward financial statements.
- Experience using accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, Xero, or similar software, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills for data entry and reconciliation tasks.
- Capability to analyze numerical information, resolve discrepancies, and maintain meticulous financial documentation.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively coordinate with colleagues and address client questions.
- Detail-oriented, dependable in meeting deadlines, and compliant with standard accounting protocols.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related disciplines; active pursuit of professional accounting certification is advantageous.
- A receptive attitude towards learning, ability to incorporate feedback, and flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities within a team environment.
- Prior internship, co-op placement, or entry-level work experience in accounting or bookkeeping will be considered a plus.
