Java Software Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a proficient Java Software Engineer to craft, develop, and sustain backend functionalities for the bank's digital channels and online banking platforms. The role demands deep expertise in Java, Spring frameworks, RESTful and SOAP services, and building enterprise-grade applications. Operating within an Agile environment, the engineer will be engaged across the entire software development lifecycle, working in close partnership with business units, QA, architects, and project leadership to deliver secure, scalable, and efficient software solutions.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy backend components using Java technologies.
• Create new features and improve existing banking applications.
• Contribute reusable, scalable architectures and maintain well-documented code standards.
• Participate in architectural decisions and technical planning.
• Engage in all SDLC stages, including requirements analysis, design, code review, unit testing, and supporting system integration and user acceptance tests.
• Manage API development, including RESTful and SOAP web services, secure API design with Spring Security, and facilitate third-party system integrations.
• Implement and uphold security standards complying with bank policies and SDLC best practices.
• Troubleshoot application issues, perform root cause analyses, and support production deployments and releases.
• Develop and maintain unit and integration tests to uphold software quality.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, communicate progress, and actively participate in Agile ceremonies and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software or Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 4 to 6 years of experience in Java application development with proven capabilities in enterprise environments.
• Experience in the Banking or Financial Services sector is advantageous.
• Hands-on experience working in Agile teams throughout the full software development lifecycle.

Technical Expertise

• Strong command over Java versions 8, 11, and 17, Core Java, and Spring Framework including Spring Boot, Security, and Cloud.
• Experience with JPA, Hibernate ORM, RESTful and SOAP web services, along with Tomcat server administration and configuration.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and utilization of Maven and Git for build and version control.
• Proficiency in unit testing using JUnit and executing system integration testing.
• Database management skills in SQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL.
• Familiarity with Linux/AIX systems, Postman and SOAP UI tools, JSON, XML, effective exception handling, logging frameworks such as Log4j and SLF4J, and performance tuning.

Additional Advantageous Skills

• Knowledge of containerization with Docker and orchestration via Kubernetes.
• Experience with Jenkins and CI/CD pipelines, code quality tools such as SonarQube, and API documentation tools like Swagger/OpenAPI.
• Familiarity with messaging systems including Kafka or JMS, caching with Redis, and security protocols like OAuth2 and JWT.
• Experience working with API gateways and DevOps tools such as GitLab CI or Azure DevOps.
• Basic front-end skills in JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and frameworks like Angular or React.

Banking Knowledge (Recommended)

• Experience with Digital, Internet, and Mobile Banking.
• Understanding of e-Channels, Payment Systems, API Banking, Authentication & Authorization mechanisms, Core Banking integrations, banking security standards, and enterprise integration design patterns.
