Java Backend Software Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Java Backend Software Engineer based in Singapore with over a decade of experience in backend development and distributed systems. The role entails designing, building, and scaling backend services and data pipelines tailored for search indexing operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and optimize backend services and indexing data pipelines to support search functionalities.
• Maintain and ensure high performance, dependability, scalability, and indexing efficiency of the systems.
• Diagnose and resolve intricate issues in distributed production environments.
• Work collaboratively with multiple engineering teams to strengthen search infrastructure.
• Conduct thorough code and design reviews, provide mentorship, and lead technical enhancement initiatives.
• Oversee system migration and modernization efforts ensuring minimal interruption to services.

Qualifications and Requirements

• More than 10 years professional experience in software engineering focusing on backend or distributed systems.
• Expertise in at least one of the following languages: Java, C++, Go, Rust, or Python.
• Proven track record in building and maintaining large-scale distributed production systems.
• Strong analytical skills particularly in areas of performance tuning, scalability strategies, and reliability engineering.
• Capability to independently lead complex technical projects from concept through to execution.

Preferred Expertise

• Background in search technologies including search infrastructure, indexing pipelines, inverted indexes, information retrieval, and query execution.
• Experience with streaming data processing and handling extensive data systems.
• Understanding of storage architectures comprising caching, sharding, and replication techniques.
• Experience conducting production system migrations and modernizations while minimizing downtime or service impacts.
