Java Backend Developer

Job Overview

As a Java backend developer at CGI, you will be part of agile squads in a dynamic digital transformation setting with rapidly changing priorities. Work Environment and Tools

• Agile squads following Scrum and SAFe methodologies
• Backend development using Java with Spring Boot and microservices architecture
• API-oriented and event-driven architecture (REST, Kafka)
• Cloud and container orchestration environments (AWS, Kubernetes)
• Integration with banking sector systems and services
• Version control and collaboration tools including Git (Bitbucket or GitHub), CI/CD pipelines, Jira, and Confluence
• Close cooperation with functional analysts, architects, QA specialists, and frontend developers

Work mode is hybrid, requiring two days per week on-site in Montreal, Quebec.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain REST APIs and backend microservices
• Participate in application architecture design and evolution
• Ensure code quality, performance, and security standards
• Create and sustain unit and integration tests following Test-Driven Development (TDD)
• Automate and enhance CI/CD pipeline processes
• Conduct code reviews and advocate best practices
• Troubleshoot, resolve, and support live production incidents
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging systems
• Collaborate with architects and technical teams
• Engage actively in agile ceremonies and continuous improvement efforts

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience
• At least five years of relevant experience in backend Java development
• Strong proficiency with Java using Spring Boot framework
• Deep understanding of API and microservices architecture
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures like Kafka is an asset
• Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly AWS services (SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, IAM, EKS)
• Adherence to software development best practices such as TDD, clean code principles, and design patterns
• Working experience with Agile frameworks, especially Scrum
• Ability to work effectively in team settings with strong collaboration skills
• Self-motivated, responsible, and detail-oriented
• Background in banking domain is a plus

Compensation and Additional Information

The estimated salary range for this position is between 60,000 and 115,000 Canadian dollars annually. Actual salary will depend on skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This role is currently open and vacant.
