Job Overview
The Janitor II position entails upholding a clean, safe, and orderly factory environment. This role supports the maintenance department during scheduled preventive activities and operates various cleaning equipment to keep the workspace hazard-free and fully operational.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of floors by performing tasks such as mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, waxing, buffing, stripping, and sealing.
- Clean restrooms thoroughly including fixtures and surfaces while replenishing supplies as required.
- Wash walls and windows and dust fixtures to ensure comprehensive cleaning.
- Empty trash bins and handle waste disposal across all factory areas.
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisors when stock needs replenishing.
- Clean outdoor areas including sidewalks and parking lots by sweeping and removing debris and garbage.
- Remove snow from sidewalks and parking spaces if applicable and assist with seasonal lawn care as needed.
- Clean production zones, equipment, and work areas to maintain safety and orderliness.
- Keep pedestrian pathways in production and warehouse sections clear and safe.
- Spot and report any hazardous conditions or unsafe areas to the correct personnel.
- Operate powered equipment such as floor scrubbers, sweepers, and pallet jacks.
- Support maintenance staff during scheduled preventive upkeep using basic hand and battery-powered tools.
- Assist in training new janitors by demonstrating responsibilities and proper cleaning methods.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least one year of janitorial or relevant cleaning experience, ideally in manufacturing or industrial settings.
- Competent in using basic cleaning machines and powered tools like floor scrubbers, sweepers, and pallet jacks.
- Capable of following both written and verbal directions and working independently.
- Keen attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Basic math competency relevant to measurements and supply inventory tracking.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend written instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of working in a factory environment exposed to dust, noise, and chemical cleaners.
- Proficient in handling various cleaning devices and power tools.
- Physical capability to lift and carry items up to 75 pounds frequently.
- Able to push and pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Flexibility to crawl, bend, kneel, climb, and squat as necessary.
- Endure exposure to varied climate conditions including heat and cold extremes.
- Frequent standing and walking during work hours.
