Job description
Job Overview
This position involves conceptualizing and delivering mechanical engineering solutions, leading a project team comprising mechanical hardware engineers and coordinating with both internal and external development partners to produce cost-efficient, dependable, and high-quality products. The engineer partners closely with leadership and interdisciplinary teams to advance the design and realization of moderately complex products, while enhancing process efficiencies and solving technical challenges.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and execution of the Integrated Scan Assembly (ISA) through all stages of product development including architecture design, part fabrication, prototyping, assembly support, verification, and iterative improvements.
- Oversee mechanical validation and verification for assigned ISA components, encompassing test plan creation, execution, and closure alongside technical risk assessment.
- Collaborate intensively with Firmware, Servo, and Image Quality teams to assure optimal function, performance, and product quality throughout the product lifecycle.
- Serve as the principal technical liaison with program and cross-functional teams such as Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain, facilitating alignment on requirements, trade-off decisions, and execution strategies.
- Develop and implement parameters and test protocols, including validation of mechanical tolerances, form/fit/function characteristics, shock/vibration resistance, electromagnetic interference resilience, safety, and reliability metrics.
- Exhibit deep understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and principles applicable to the role.
- Maintain active communication with management and outsourced development partners regarding design progress and resolving issues.
- Manage supplier and outsourced partner relationships to ensure quality, schedule adherence, and cost control.
- Lead and mentor other mechanical hardware engineers and external partners, fostering teamwork towards the delivery of effective engineering solutions.
- Drive procedural improvements and ensure products meet specified business and quality standards through thorough documentation and project management skills.
- Resolve straightforward design and development challenges using technical expertise and sound judgment.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Typically 4 to 7 years of professional engineering experience in design and hardware development lifecycle roles, or 3 to 5 years with an advanced degree.
Technical Expertise
- Proficient in 3D modeling and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) with tools such as PTC Creo and SolidWorks.
- Skilled in simulation techniques including Ansys and finite element analysis.
- Experience with electromechanical systems and mechanical engineering design processes.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods including injection molding, machining, sheet metal fabrication, prototyping, and thermal management.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management and new product development processes.
