Job description

About Main Sequence

Main Sequence (MSV) is Australia's premier deep technology venture capital firm managing over $1 billion across three funds. We invest in innovators and inventors advancing fields such as quantum computing, synthetic biology, climate tech, space, and AI. Currently, we are in the process of raising Fund 4.

Role Overview

The Investor Relations Manager will be central to managing and enhancing Main Sequence's connections with both current and potential limited partners (LPs). This critical position ensures that the Partners are thoroughly prepared for investor interactions, maintaining robust follow-up processes and high-quality research, materials, scheduling, and CRM management.

Within our fund structure, Partners maintain direct communication with investors; your role is to streamline all preparatory activities that currently fall to our Partners and COO. You'll be qualifying leads, scheduling meetings, sharpening and customizing presentation materials, and freeing the Partners to focus solely on engaged, strategic discussions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute customized engagement plans for existing and prospective LPs, identifying potential investors such as family offices, pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and wealth managers.
  • Conduct strategic outreach and qualify investor interest to ensure Partners invest their time only in well-prepared, promising conversations. Schedule investor meetings aligning with Partners’ travel and availability throughout the year.
  • Maintain and refine Main Sequence's narrative and performance story through tailored decks and presentation materials suited for diverse audiences, including domestic and international investors.
  • Plan and coordinate the event calendar, including significant conferences, AGMs, roadshows, and webinars. Manage Partner schedules, capture meeting notes, and ensure timely follow-ups.
  • Oversee investor communications such as quarterly updates, due diligence questionnaires (DDQ), and briefing notes, ensuring clear, consistent, and on-brand messaging that keeps LPs well-informed.
  • Fully manage the data room and CRM systems, keeping all information current and accurate, coordinating with finance teams as necessary, and logging all interactions with insights, next steps, and tasks.

Candidate Profile

We seek a proactive, fast learner with a consulting mindset who excels in supporting client or investor-facing teams with exceptional operational coordination, even without direct supervision. You thrive at connecting diverse stakeholders and take pride in delivering impeccable, behind-the-scenes support enabling Partners to excel.

You are self-motivated and adept at managing senior relationships, confidently driving processes, setting deadlines, and maintaining progress independently.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience in operational roles such as consulting, sales operations, or go-to-market enablement supporting client or investor-facing teams.
  • Strong research capabilities to independently familiarize yourself with new markets and audiences, converting data into actionable insights.
  • Skilled in quickly creating and adapting polished presentation materials based on existing templates tailored to specific stakeholders.
  • Exceptional writing skills, able to communicate complex ideas clearly and close communication loops efficiently with professional, on-brand responses.
  • Assertive follow-up approach, comfortable pursuing senior stakeholders including Partners to obtain necessary information and prevent delays.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for deep tech and science-driven enterprises, appreciating the sector's innovative dynamics without needing a scientific background.

Preferred Attributes

  • Background in consulting with strong research and client-ready deliverable experience under tight deadlines.
  • Prior exposure to venture capital or private market environments is an advantage.
  • Existing network within Australian limited partners or global institutional investors is a plus.
  • Experience supporting a small, senior team or founders directly.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to contribute to the most ambitious funding round (Fund 4) amid unprecedented global attention on Australian deep tech.
  • Immediate access to senior decision-makers and meaningful involvement in relationships with prominent institutional investors worldwide.
  • Highly influential role with scope to shape and expand the investor relations function as it develops over time.

Additional Information

Main Sequence welcomes applications from individuals offering diverse perspectives and experiences to foster an inclusive workplace.
