Job description
Role Overview
The Internal Audit Manager will be responsible for devising, carrying out, and reporting on comprehensive audits and risk assessments across all organizational departments. This position requires thorough knowledge of internal control systems, adherence to regulatory standards, risk oversight, and optimizing operational procedures. The manager ensures that business activities comply with policies and regulations while maximizing efficiency through rigorous audit practices, fraud investigation, and internal control analysis.
Audit Planning and Implementation
- Formulate and implement internal audit policies and frameworks that comply with regulatory demands and align with company objectives.
- Lead the creation of the Annual Internal Audit Plan, emphasizing risk-based approaches influenced by input from various business units and the Audit Committee.
- Maintain flexibility in the audit schedule to address emerging risks or operational changes throughout the year.
Audit Execution and Supervision
- Manage timely completion of audits such as physical inventory verification, fixed asset assessments, process evaluations, and compliance checks.
- Lead variance analyses, identify root causes, and conduct reconciliation procedures effectively.
- Oversee fraud investigations and forensic audits with impartiality, ensuring factual accuracy and thorough documentation.
- Ensure all audit documentation meets established standards, including those set by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Internal Controls and Risk Management
- Assess and report on the effectiveness of internal controls and risk management frameworks.
- Recognize deficiencies and suggest improvements to governance, operational workflows, and compliance systems.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments focusing on financial, operational, and reputational risks across business units.
- Support formulation and monitoring of risk mitigation strategies to ensure audit recommendations are enacted.
Reporting and Communication
- Review and approve audit scopes, evidence files, and final reports ensuring clarity and quality of information presented.
- Consolidate and deliver audit findings, key concerns, and actionable advice to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.
- Maintain professional and transparent communication with all stakeholders including auditees and external parties.
Team Leadership and Development
- Guide, mentor, and oversee audit personnel to foster continuous professional growth, consistency in audit practice, and adherence to ethical standards.
- Monitor team output ensuring deadlines are met and quality assurance is upheld across all audit projects.
Regulatory Compliance and External Coordination
- Ensure organizational compliance with internal policies, applicable laws, and industry norms.
- Act as the key contact point during external audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance audits.
- Work closely with Legal, Finance, and Risk teams to ensure cohesive compliance management.
Additional Responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to special reviews, advisory assignments, and investigative projects as instructed by management or the Audit Committee.
- Stay informed on new and evolving risks, auditing techniques, and industry best practices.
- Offer proactive consultancy during new project startups, ERP system rollouts, or organizational restructuring efforts.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Internal Audit, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- Professional credentials highly preferred, including CIA, CPA, ACCA, CISA, or their equivalents.
- At least 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in internal audit, risk compliance, or related domains, with managerial or supervisory responsibilities.
- Deep expertise in risk-based auditing, internal controls, governance, regulatory standards, and Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) guidelines.
- Proven track record managing audit planning, fieldwork, report generation, fraud investigations, and control assessments.
- Exceptional analytical capabilities, problem-solving aptitude, clear report writing, and strong presentation skills capable of engaging senior stakeholders and audit committees.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing and developing audit teams while upholding integrity, impartiality, and confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP platforms, and audit management software; experience with ERP implementations and advisory reviews is advantageous.
