About the Role
Join Atlas Studios, a Shopify Plus Partner agency located in Takapuna, Auckland, and contribute to projects for some of Australia's and New Zealand's most ambitious brands. As an Intermediate Shopify Developer, you will be a vital part of a senior team of strategists, designers, developers, and marketers working across mid-market and enterprise D2C, retail, and B2B clients. The goal is to set industry standards through efficient and high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance Online Store 2.0 themes ensuring high performance, accessibility, and ease of merchant customization.
- Create custom applications, checkout UI extensions, Shopify Functions, and integrate with ERPs, 3PLs, Klaviyo, and other client tech stacks using Shopify's Admin and Storefront GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and metaobjects.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code to improve productivity and share best practices with teammates.
- Maintain code quality through effective git workflows, peer-reviewed pull requests, and comprehensive staging and quality assurance processes.
- Estimate tasks, break work into manageable tickets, and proactively identify and communicate potential risks.
- Communicate technical choices clearly to Delivery Managers and clients in non-technical terms.
- Document technical decisions and client contexts thoroughly using internal AI systems.
Candidate Profile
- Possess 2 to 4 years of practical Shopify development experience with demonstrable live stores or apps.
- Proficient in Liquid templating language, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and comfortable working with React.
- Knowledgeable in Shopify's GraphQL APIs, webhooks, metafields, and app lifecycle management.
- Experienced in integrating AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot into daily workflows.
- Competent in using git in collaborative, reviewed codebases.
- Strong written communication skills and dedication to code craftsmanship.
- Adaptable to fast-paced environments and capable of working with imperfect or evolving information.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience with Shopify Functions, Hydrogen, headless build architectures.
- Familiarity with MCP servers or agentic workflows.
- Experience with Klaviyo, Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO), Shopify POS systems.
- Background in B2B, ERP, 3PL integrations or agency work.
- Shopify Partner Academy certifications.
