Role Overview

The Intermediate Planner role involves collaboration with seasoned planning professionals on a variety of infrastructure, environmental, and development projects throughout New Zealand. The role requires delivering planning consultancy services, preparing statutory documents, engaging stakeholders, and supporting project delivery to achieve positive outcomes for a wide spectrum of clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting and assisting in resource consent applications, notices of requirement, and environmental effect assessments.
  • Contributing to plan change, policy formation, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Offering planning advice to both public and private sector clients.
  • Preparing technical reports, submissions, and detailed planning assessments.
  • Conducting stakeholder and community engagement.
  • Participating in project meetings, workshops, and site inspections.
  • Coordinating inputs from technical specialists as needed.
  • Assisting with overall project execution, programme management, and reporting to clients.
  • Collaborating within multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Candidate Profile

  • Holds a planning degree accredited by NZPI or a related tertiary qualification in planning, resource management, environmental science, or geography.
  • Brings approximately 4 years of relevant planning industry experience.
  • Has experience preparing or supporting resource consent applications and assessments.
  • Possesses solid understanding of New Zealand's planning legislation and statutory processes.
  • Exhibits strong written communication skills including technical report writing.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Shows proficient organizational and time management skills.
  • Is attentive to detail with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Holds a current valid full New Zealand driver's licence.
