The Risk Detection team at TikTok is dedicated to fostering trust by identifying emerging platform risks proactively before they become critical. Within this team, the Global Trend Detection group focuses on spotting, analyzing, and mitigating risks across all ByteDance business lines worldwide. Utilizing a blend of AI-driven tools, in-house detection systems, third-party partners, and open-source intelligence, the team delivers early alerts and actionable insights that safeguard users, products, and business operations internationally. Their outputs shape policies, product enhancements, tooling, and enforcement measures across TikTok.

Role Overview

The Intelligence Analyst plays a dual role involving strategy design and tactical execution to address high-impact business risks. This entails creating detection strategies, monitoring anomalies, validating findings, and enriching data. The analyst may also coordinate third-party partners and AI agents in strategy delivery. The position requires a combination of technical expertise, familiarity with AI and internal tools, along with program/project management skills, effective communication, problem-solving, and investigative capabilities to achieve measurable risk reductions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee detection strategies for a portfolio of significant risks such as election integrity and crisis responses on a global scale.
• Establish and nurture strong partnerships with senior stakeholders across risk and regional teams to align on priorities and promote adoption of detection insights.
• Make autonomous, data-powered decisions on risk segmentation, resource distribution, and coverage plans for complex and ambiguous threat scenarios.
• Create and sustain proactive risk detection frameworks, prioritization methods, and impact measurement metrics supporting Risk Prevention and Response objectives, contributing to team guidelines.
• Develop and maintain customized dashboards and reporting tools to monitor detection effectiveness and risk exposure.
• Manage third-party detection partnerships by monitoring performance, defining SLAs, and assuring quality.
• Lead risk detection and response for specific projects or domains, especially during critical events like elections and crises, supplying timely intelligence and strategic direction.
• Plan project or domain coverage and resource allocation, ensuring priority regional detection deployment.
• Monitor key performance indicators, provide updates to senior leaders, and refine programs to enhance outcomes.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of multi-source data to identify trends, assess risk impact, and deliver actionable insights.
• Gain expertise with AI-powered detection platforms, internal tooling, and data analytics to increase detection efficiency.
• Integrate AI methods into workflows to speed up and improve detection accuracy and scalability.
• Communicate complex data analyses into clear strategic recommendations impacting policy, tooling, and operations.
• Enhance detection processes by automating tasks and streamlining workflows.
• Perform root cause analyses of detection gaps and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
• Collaborate with Risk Intelligence teams to pilot new AI/tools and optimize their performance and usability.
• Work with external intelligence partners to tailor detection capabilities and maximize partnership value.
• Present risk evaluations, program progress, and strategies to leadership and governance bodies.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to independently manage complex projects, portfolios, or programs with measurable outcomes.
• Experience using AI tools, data analytics, or detection systems with successful workflow and process improvements.
• Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management, including presenting to senior leadership.
• Strong quantitative skills in analyzing large datasets to inform decision-making.
• Deep knowledge of global geopolitical matters, social media dynamics, and emergent online harms.
• Preferred: Previous work with third-party vendors or external partnerships.
• Preferred: Familiarity or willingness to use Python/SQL.
