Immersive Character Experience Lead

Role Overview

We are looking for an innovative Immersive Character Experience Lead to craft and steer engaging character experiences across digital immersive platforms, including virtual environments, extended reality (XR), and AI-driven interactive spaces. This individual will pioneer how users encounter, interact, and emotionally relate to digital characters.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the overarching experience strategy for digital characters, avatars, virtual humans, and AI-based entities within immersive settings.
• Outline user journeys involving discovery, interaction, communication, and relationship building with these digital characters.
• Create concepts blending narrative, personality traits, visual style, vocal elements, behavior, and emotional responses.
• Design interactive scenarios suitable for platforms like virtual worlds, XR experiences, and games featuring AI-driven characters.
• Partner with storytelling and character teams to translate backstories and identities into immersive interactions.
• Define dynamic character behaviors, emotional states, interaction methods, and context-sensitive responses.
• Collaborate closely with AI and conversational technology teams to shape characters capable of natural, contextual, personality-consistent exchanges.
• Craft social, conversational, and experiential journeys fostering meaningful engagements.
• Integrate voice, facial expressions, gestures, movement, animation, and other performance features to nurture authenticity.
• Develop comprehensive guidelines, behavior frameworks, interaction specs, and scenario documentation.
• Prototype interactions through role-plays, simulations, and real-user testing sessions.
• Assess immersion, emotional effect, usability, consistency, and authenticity of character experiences.
• Spot opportunities to enhance character engagement via AI, personalization, adaptive behaviors, and environmental storytelling.
• Collaborate with 3D, XR, and virtual environment teams to smoothly embed characters into their contexts.
• Lead creative contributors ensuring alignment between character identity, narrative, interaction, and visual presentation.
• Monitor feedback, behavior analytics, and qualitative research to iteratively improve the experiences.
• Explore new technologies and interaction paradigms to broaden AI-powered and immersive character potential.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interaction Design, Experience Design, Game Design, Digital Media, Film, Theatre, Animation, Creative Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, or comparable experience.
• 3 to 5 years of professional background in character design, experience design, interactive media, game development, XR, virtual humans, or conversational AI.
• Proven track record designing immersive or interactive experiences featuring avatars, virtual humans, or AI characters.
• Deep expertise in character development, storytelling, interaction design, and user experience.
• Ability to conceive characters as interactive entities with personality, behavior, memory, and social presence rather than mere visual assets.
• Solid understanding of immersive digital media including virtual worlds, XR, and games.
• Experience with AI-powered or generative AI characters and adaptive interaction systems is a strong plus.
• Knowledge of voice acting, facial animation, body language, gestures, movement, and emotional expression is advantageous.
• Familiarity with game engines, XR platforms, real-time 3D environments, and digital human technologies is beneficial.
• Strong skills in creative leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
• Capability to effectively collaborate across creative and technical domains including AI, narrative, animation, and development.
• Fluent in English; additional languages are a bonus.
• Portfolio demonstrating relevant character or immersive interactive projects including AI characters, XR, and digital humans is required.
