Humanities and Social Sciences Teacher

Position Overview

Mater Dei College invites applications for a full-time, ongoing position as a Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Teacher, starting January 1, 2027. This role requires a passionate individual dedicated to fostering student achievement and engagement within the College's HASS department.

Key Responsibilities

• Employ dynamic teaching approaches tailored to engage and challenge students across diverse ability levels, aiming to meet specific learning outcomes.
• Create and maintain an inclusive, motivating classroom atmosphere that encourages student development.
• Deliver a comprehensive HASS curriculum designed to nurture critical thinking, practical knowledge application, inquiry-led learning, and ethical decision-making.
• Plan and prepare lessons and units across the HASS Learning Area to maximize student participation and knowledge acquisition.
• Evaluate student progress following College policies and maintain communication with parents regarding student performance and welfare as needed.
• Comply with deadlines established by the Head of Learning Area and College Executive.

Candidate Profile and Selection Criteria

• Capability to instruct students from Years 7 through 12 effectively.
• Possession of a tertiary qualification in Secondary Education, ideally with a focus on Humanities and Social Sciences.
• Commitment to designing inclusive and high-quality educational experiences accommodating various student needs.
• Strong organisational abilities combined with excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork capacity.
• Commitment to effective communication and relationship-building with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Dedication to ongoing professional development.
• Willingness to actively engage in and support the wider co-curricular programs of the College.

Required Qualifications and Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably with a specialization in Humanities and Social Sciences.
• Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or equivalent credential.
• Current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
• Valid Working with Children Check (WWC).
• Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School, Religious Education, or Leadership accreditation in Catholic Schools, or progress towards these qualifications.
• Annual completion of Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting training.

Highly Desirable Attributes
