Job description
Role Overview
Our client requires a dedicated People & Culture Manager in County Mayo to foster a high-performing workforce. The position involves safeguarding company interests, ensuring compliance with legal standards, maintaining fair and consistent employee treatment, and cultivating a culture focused on accountability, engagement, and continuous growth. This is a permanent, independent HR leadership role ideal for a seasoned professional prepared to establish and develop the HR department from scratch across office and construction site teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and steer the HR function, aligning HR initiatives with business objectives and operational demands.
- Introduce and execute programs to enhance employee engagement, retention, and communication for both office and site personnel.
- Provide advice and coaching to managers and supervisors on HR issues, employee relations, and performance challenges, especially regarding site-based teams.
- Review and update company policies to comply with employment laws, health and safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Promote a workplace culture that emphasizes safety, teamwork, and ongoing improvement.
- Handle all HR administrative duties, including contracts, onboarding, staff changes, exits, and record maintenance for permanent and temporary workers.
- Ensure data accuracy and confidentiality adhering to GDPR and data protection laws.
- Collaborate with payroll to guarantee prompt and precise compensation, including overtime and site-specific allowances, compliant with construction agreements.
- Maintain and adapt the Employee Handbook to suit the construction and roofing industry's particularities.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment across roles such as tradespeople, site workers, and office staff, implementing targeted recruitment campaigns within construction networks.
- Oversee onboarding and induction efforts, guaranteeing new hires receive necessary site safety and compliance training.
- Supervise company-wide training adherence, covering mandatory health & safety and legislative topics.
- Provide or organize training for managers and supervisors focusing on people management, site safety, and HR best practices.
- Collaborate with site managers to assess training requirements and maintain relevant, engaging content.
- Serve as the primary contact for HR-related inquiries, grievances, and disciplinary actions, supporting timely and fair conflict resolution to uphold workplace harmony.
- Champion employee well-being and engagement initiatives suited to a construction workforce environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least five years of HR experience, preferably with a background in construction, trades, or similarly practical sectors.
- Strong operational HR expertise with a proven ability to independently establish HR processes.
- Comprehensive understanding of employment legislation, health & safety, and HR compliance tailored to construction.
- Personable, pragmatic approach comfortable advising all managerial levels, including site supervisors.
- Experience in managing HR across multiple locations or mobile teams is beneficial.
- CIPD certification or a degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field is preferred.
