About the Position
The University of Georgia's Center for Continuing Education & Hotel invites dedicated, reliable, and team-oriented candidates to join their staff as Housepersons. Located on the Athens campus, the Georgia Center manages non-credit professional and continuing education programs and hosts the university's only on-campus hotel.
Work Schedule & Salary
- Standard workweek consists of 40 hours, primarily Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and weekends from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
- Hours may vary during football games and special events.
- Flexibility is required as working on university holidays, overtime, and any day of the week including weekends is expected.
- Annual salary is $35,200.
Role Summary
This role supports the housekeeping and laundry teams by replenishing cleaning supplies, delivering linens, removing soiled materials, and assisting with laundry tasks like sorting, washing, drying, and folding. Exceptional customer service skills and teamwork are critical contributors to the housekeeping department's success.
Responsibilities
- Restock housekeeping closets with linens and amenities.
- Collect and remove dirty linens and trash from guest rooms, carts, and hallways.
- Provide assistance in laundry duties, hotel cleaning, and maintaining public areas.
- Clean carpets in hotel and public spaces.
- Attend training sessions, staff meetings, and fulfill other assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Minimum technical knowledge obtained through apprenticeship, associate degree, or relevant professional certification; experience and education substitutions may be considered.
- Previous hotel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Customer service experience and guest interaction are advantageous.
- Must be dependable, responsible, honest, and possess a strong work ethic with a positive demeanor.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to adapt to fast-paced and time-sensitive situations.
- English language proficiency required.
- Stable previous employment record is valued.
Physical Requirements
- Physically demanding role requiring prolonged standing and walking.
- Ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and perform manual tasks.
- Exposure to dust, hair, lint, dirt, and odors to identify cleaning needs.
- Work in confined spaces such as between beds and closets.
- Lift or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds regularly.
- Push or pull carts weighing up to 75 pounds.
Additional Information
- This is a position of trust with security access but no direct patient or minor care responsibilities.
- Driving is not a requirement of this job.
