About the Role
A respected hospitality establishment in Dar es Salaam is looking to hire a proactive and experienced Housekeeping Lead. This position involves managing day-to-day housekeeping functions to uphold superior cleanliness, impeccable room presentation, hygiene standards, and excellent guest satisfaction levels. The selected candidate will oversee housekeeping staff, ensure rooms are guest-ready in coordination with the Front Office, monitor inventory stock, manage maintenance follow-ups, and assist in Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) operations. This role is ideal for a highly organized, meticulous hospitality professional who leads by example and thrives on hands-on involvement.
Primary Duties
- Oversee and organize daily assignments for room attendants and housekeeping personnel based on guest arrivals, departures, occupancy, and operational priorities.
- Conduct thorough inspections of guest rooms, hallways, public and back-of-house areas to confirm cleanliness and service standards.
- Ensure rooms are cleaned and approved for occupancy within designated timeframes, managing turnaround times efficiently.
- Maintain strong coordination with Front Office using OPERA PMS to update room status, manage special room requests including VIP preparations, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Identify maintenance needs in guest and operational areas, liaise with maintenance staff and contractors, verify repair work quality, and maintain detailed maintenance records.
- Participate in planning and tracking of PPM activities, spotting recurring issues and escalating as necessary.
- Enforce high housekeeping standards through routine quality checks and swift corrective actions for any deficiencies.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests and any housekeeping-related concerns to ensure their satisfaction.
- Provide leadership, training, and supervision of housekeeping staff, focusing on cleaning procedures, hygiene, guest service, and equipment safety.
- Monitor staff performance, attendance, discipline, and grooming while fostering teamwork, accountability, and high productivity.
- Manage inventory control by conducting regular stock counts of linen, cleaning supplies, amenities, and equipment; report shortages or wastage; and coordinate timely purchasing requisitions.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, health, and safety protocols, including proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals, safety reporting, and Lost & Found procedures.
- Demonstrate flexibility to work varied shifts as required, supporting hotel operations during peak occupancy, events, or staffing shortages.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 4 years in housekeeping roles within 4–5 star hotels or comparable high-standard hospitality environments.
- Previous leadership experience such as Housekeeping Supervisor or Senior Housekeeper.
- Competence with OPERA PMS software for room and operational management.
- Proven skills in team supervision, training, inventory control, maintenance coordination, and preventive maintenance.
- Strong understanding of hotel cleanliness, hygiene protocols, and room presentation standards.
- Proficient English communication abilities.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work independently and maintain efficiency in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
- Professional and disciplined attitude, with a committed hands-on approach.
Compensation and Location
Salary range is 500000 to 850000 Tanzanian Shillings gross per month. The role is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
