About the Role
We are looking to recruit a responsible and approachable Hostel Warden who will oversee the daily running of the university hostel. The candidate will prioritize student safety and welfare, maintain discipline, supervise the management of hostel services, and foster a supportive living environment for residents. This role demands sensitivity when addressing student concerns, seamless coordination with multiple departments, and quick action in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage daily hostel functions ensuring a safe, clean, and comfortable living space.
- Uphold discipline and enforce all hostel and university policies.
- Manage room assignments, monitor student attendance, handle leave applications, oversee visitor registrations, and maintain hostel records.
- Carry out routine inspections of student accommodations, common areas, dining halls, and the overall hostel premises.
- Address and resolve student-related issues, complaints, and welfare concerns effectively.
- Collaborate with parents, faculty, counselors, security staff, and university administration as needed.
- React promptly and appropriately to medical, safety, security, and other urgent incidents.
- Supervise housekeeping, maintenance, catering, sanitation, and security operations.
- Prevent incidents such as ragging, harassment, substance abuse, violence, or other misconduct and report them timely.
- Organize hostel meetings, student orientations, and engagement programs.
- Maintain comprehensive records relating to incidents, disciplinary actions, assets, and maintenance needs.
- Compile and submit regular reports on hostel administration activities.
Candidate Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in any field is required; postgraduate degrees are desirable.
- At least five years of pertinent experience in hostel management, student affairs, educational institutions, residential schools, universities, or defence services.
- Experience within an educational environment is preferred.
- Basic competency with MS Office and digital systems for record management.
- Excellent communication skills in English and local language.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including conflict resolution and sound judgment.
- A student-centric and approachable demeanor with ability to handle confidential matters sensitively.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours including evenings, weekends, and emergency situations.
- Attributes such as integrity, patience, and emotional maturity are essential.
Additional Conditions
- The candidate must be willing to live on campus.
- Must be available during evenings, weekends, and emergencies.
