Overview
A dynamic opportunity is available for an experienced Head of Logistics to lead the ocean freight rate management and operational execution for a pioneering early-stage B2B SaaS company transforming international freight forwarding through artificial intelligence. The position is based in Dubai and demands a practical leader with extensive direct experience in ocean freight logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and own the strategy around ocean freight rate sourcing and supply.
- Build and sustain productive relationships with NVOCCs and regional carriers, especially within the India–UAE shipping lanes.
- Lead the rate and operations desk to ensure efficient and competitive freight services.
- Serve as the senior escalation contact for resolving operational challenges.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and AI teams to integrate real-world freight expertise into the platform's quoting and booking systems.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum of seven years of practical hands-on experience in ocean freight operations, gained within freight forwarders, NVOCCs, or carriers.
- Proven track record in full container load (FCL) rate sourcing and negotiation.
- Established relationships with NVOCCs and carriers, particularly across India and UAE routes.
- Experience managing a freight desk, small branch, or similar logistics operation.
- Strong understanding of contract and spot pricing, surcharges, carrier behavior, capacity issues, and transit times.
- Sharp commercial insight to swiftly judge competitiveness and accuracy of freight rates and surcharges.
- An entrepreneurial, hands-on mindset well-suited to a startup or minimum viable product (MVP) environment.
- Familiarity with rate management software such as CargoWise or Freightos is desirable.
- Proficiency in Hindi or Arabic is considered an advantage.
