Role Overview
We seek a Head of Data Platform and Data Engineering to join our Data and Analytics Team, reporting directly to the Chief Data & Analytics Officer. This leader will own the enterprise-wide Snowflake data platform, ensuring its strategic direction, architecture, performance, security, and cost-efficiency while steering growth within the Data Engineering function.
Key Responsibilities
- Exercise enterprise-level ownership of the Snowflake platform, defining its strategy, architecture, operational efficiency, cost control, and security measures.
- Develop and enforce the enterprise-wide data architecture blueprint, establishing standards, design patterns, and governance to unify data modeling, integration, and consumption.
- Lead delivery of robust, high-quality data pipelines serving Finance, Risk, Analytics, Wealth Management, and regulatory reporting aligned with BCBS 239 standards.
- Ensure data products are AI-ready by delivering well-governed, documented, and high-quality datasets suitable for machine learning and AI applications.
- Manage and nurture the Data Engineering team by setting engineering standards, tooling, reusable patterns, and career development paths.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across departments such as Finance, Risk, Technology, Operations, Investment, and Wealth Management to translate data requirements into platform capabilities.
- Oversee vendor relationships including Snowflake and partners, ensuring commercial value and accountable delivery.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a degree or higher qualification in quantitative or numerate disciplines such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or equivalent industrial experience.
- Proven leadership experience of data platform and data engineering functions within financial services, with a preference for backgrounds in wealth management, asset management, private banking, or insurance.
- Advanced expertise in Snowflake or comparable cloud data platforms, including management of cost, security, and performance at enterprise scale.
- Strong capability in enterprise data architecture, including planning, developing roadmaps, and leading design governance.
- Experience in delivering data products and meeting regulatory reporting needs for key functions like Finance, Risk, and Operations.
- Skilled in preparing data for AI usage, encompassing data products, quality control frameworks, metadata management, and data lineage.
- Demonstrated success in leading and developing data engineering teams, fostering capability growth and career advancement.
- Competence in managing stakeholders and vendors effectively.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills with initiative and prioritization capabilities; familiarity with Agile and continuous improvement methods.
- Commitment to compliance with data privacy, ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and embedding principles of Responsible AI.
