Growth Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a data-driven Growth Engineer who takes full ownership of user engagement metrics. Your mission is to identify where users drop off between signing up and achieving their first meaningful success with Viktor, then design, build, and deploy rapid fixes within the same week.

Viktor integrates seamlessly into workplace platforms such as Slack and Microsoft Teams, with upcoming versions for web, desktop, and mobile. Key Challenges

The primary challenge is building user trust in an AI that occasionally errs. Unlike standard products with click-through funnels, user activation with Viktor is based on a successful initial task through natural conversational interaction involving onboarding dialogue, actionable defaults, and timely nudges.

Responsibilities

• Analyze user behavior from installation through first success to broader team usage, independently developing solutions to remove obstacles.
• Design, implement, and evaluate experiments with clear hypotheses, feature flags, and measurable outcomes, collaborating closely with the Growth Data Scientist.
• Take full responsibility for user activation on Slack and Viktor projects, optimizing for first runs, first completed tasks, and rapid time-to-value.
• Enhance feature discoverability and improve retention through in-app prompts, lifecycle nudges, and refined default settings.
• Manage growth cycles including user invitations, sharing mechanisms, and referral campaigns.
• Ensure thorough instrumentation of all shipped features to enable data-driven decision making.
• Adapt and build whatever is necessary within a small, agile team with a broad scope of responsibilities.

Qualifications and Attributes

• User-centric mindset with enthusiasm for leveraging data and feedback to stimulate user growth, combined with strong product intuition to implement effective solutions.
• Excellent analytical skills to define activation metrics, dissect funnels, pinpoint drop-offs, and understand causes.
• Demonstrated success in improving activation, retention, or conversion metrics, supported by before-and-after analyses.
• Experienced in running A/B tests with clear hypotheses and actionable insights.
• Proven track record of shipping real-world products used by actual customers, owning them end to end.
• Strong engineering capabilities, capable of independently managing code changes including database and user data modifications.
• Detail-oriented approach, with keen attention to states like empty UI views, microcopy, and edge cases, ensuring high quality before release.
• Direct engagement with users and focus on outcomes over task completion; able to refine scope and deliver impactful results.
• Ability to deliver rapid, high-quality releases consistently, emphasizing speed and quality.
• Proficient in agentic coding practices, leveraging AI tools to accelerate development.
• Deep intrinsic motivation to build and innovate beyond mere obligation.

Technology Stack

Currently, Viktor operates within Slack and Teams, with future extensions to web, desktop, and mobile platforms. The stack includes TypeScript and React for the frontend web interface, Python for backend and agent systems, and Modal for infrastructure. This role emphasizes instrumentation and experimentation across full stack, including database work when required.

Work Environment

A small, highly trusted team that minimizes process overhead. Decisions come from ownership rather than committees. Immediate impact with first shipments in the initial week and early user engagement. Minimal meetings with a focus on rapid iterative development.
