Job description
About Valont
Valont is an AI-centric professional services firm specializing in acquiring profitable accounting, finance, HR, IT, and advisory firms and transforming them by integrating a proprietary AI-driven operational platform. Rather than providing standalone software, Valont reengineers the service operations themselves to serve small and medium-sized enterprises more effectively. It operates as part of Wattlestone, a Brisbane-based private investment company. Having completed one acquisition, Valont currently has three additional firms in the process of due diligence. The organization features a flat structure, a compact team, and growth that relies on AI capabilities instead of increasing headcount.
Role Overview
The Group Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial accounts and reporting of the entire Valont Group, including the head office and all acquired entities. Key duties include month-end closing, group consolidation, tax and statutory filings, cash flow forecasting, and performance reporting to both executives and the Board. Additionally, this role involves onboarding each new acquisition onto Valont's AI-based platform and partnering closely with AI Engineers to develop automation solutions for various finance processes such as payroll, accounts payable, receivables, bank reconciliation, and expense management.
The successful candidate will transition from manually posting journal entries to supervising automated agents ensuring accuracy and identifying further automation opportunities. Being part of a growing company, the candidate will actively participate in shaping the scalable finance operations of the future.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Certified CA or CPA qualification, supported by approximately three to five years of experience in accounting or finance functions.
- Proven track record of successfully automating manual finance processes using tools such as Power Query, Power Automate, Zapier, Make, n8n, Python scripting, Xero APIs, or similar technologies.
- Strong accounting fundamentals including month-end close, financial statement preparation, BAS, payroll tax, FBT, and collaboration with external tax advisors on income tax matters.
- A curious mindset open to challenging traditional workflows, rethinking processes, and embracing continuous learning.
- Self-motivated with the ability to independently identify work priorities and collaborate effectively with engineers and other team members.
Experience with building AI agents is not required, as training will be provided.
Benefits
- Opportunity to join a funded and growing Group at an early stage with acquisitions underway.
- Work closely alongside AI Engineers with access to cutting-edge tools and support.
- Flat organizational structure with direct interaction with knowledgeable executives who provide leadership and career coaching.
- A finance function innovating through AI automation differing significantly from traditional finance roles.
- Office located in Brisbane CBD offering full-time employment and compensation aligned with experience and role scope.
Application Instructions
To apply, submit your CV along with a brief cover note describing one finance process you have automated, detailing the prior manual method, your solution, and its effects. All applications will be handled confidentially with informal initial discussions.
