Job Overview

Under supervision, the Grounds Laborer manages the care and upkeep of outdoor landscapes and grounds around buildings, including some janitorial responsibilities. This role ensures company cleanliness standards are consistently met through the proper use of tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute diverse groundskeeping tasks to maintain landscape appearance.
• Operate hand, power, or riding mowers to cut grass.
• Trim and edge areas adjacent to pathways, flower beds, and walls.
• Prepare terrain by raking, planting seed or sod where necessary.
• Plant flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes to enhance landscape aesthetics.
• Apply fertilizers and pesticides to promote healthy growth.
• Remove tree stumps, fill holes, and reseed grass as required.
• Clear all landscaping debris promptly.
• Cut down hazardous tree limbs to maintain safety.
• Trim shrubs and remove weeds regularly.
• Perform minor maintenance and repairs on groundskeeping equipment.
• Rake mulch and prune landscaping areas as needed.
• Water plants and lawns, applying fertilizers as part of upkeep.
• Assist with janitorial duties when assigned by the supervisor.
• Undertake additional tasks as required.

Working Environment

• Exposure to heat and sun for prolonged periods.
• Potential contact with chemicals, fumes, odors, and infectious agents.
• Presence of wildlife in work areas.
• Possible exposure to high noise levels and physical vibrations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum age: 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
• At least one year of related groundskeeping experience.
• Dependable, responsible, and reliable work ethic.
• Proficient reading, writing, and communication in English.
• Understanding of landscaping tools, equipment, and methods.
• Capability to select appropriate tools and equipment for various tasks.
• Ability or willingness to operate machinery such as riding mowers, weed eaters, edgers, chainsaws, stump grinders, hedge trimmers, blowers, wood chippers, lifts, and pressure washers.
• Physical ability to bend, stretch, twist, and reach limbs effectively.
• Good close-range vision (within a few feet).
• Physical capacity to lift between 25 to 50 pounds.
• Stamina to stand and walk outdoors for long durations in various weather conditions.
• Strong adherence to safety regulations and efficient work practices.
• Capability to perform repetitive motions and work in potentially awkward postures.
