Responsibilities

• Perform expert grooming tasks such as bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland expression, following breed standards and customer preferences.
• Operate and maintain grooming tools including clippers, shears, blades, brushes, and dryers with care and precision.
• Prioritize animal welfare by monitoring pets for any signs of distress, illness, or injury and promptly informing pet owners and management.
• Assess individual pet needs based on coat type, skin condition, and temperament to tailor grooming services.
• Engage professionally with pet parents to provide exceptional customer service, answer grooming questions, and offer personalized recommendations for maintenance and care.
• Maintain a sanitary and organized grooming environment by disinfecting equipment, cleaning salon areas, and performing routine maintenance such as cleaning air filters and vents.
• Adhere strictly to Petco's grooming policies and standards to ensure quality, safety, and consistency in service delivery.
• Provide guidance and support to trainee groomers when leadership is unavailable.

Qualifications

• Completion of Petco’s Pet Stylist Apprentice program or equivalent professional grooming experience or technical training.
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to independently solve grooming challenges using knowledge and experience, with support available if needed.
• Strong commitment to productivity, accuracy, and ownership within grooming responsibilities.
• Excellent eye for detail to ensure grooming meets high standards.
• Passion for animals and dedication to advancing a grooming career.
• Comprehensive knowledge of dog breeds, grooming needs, common health issues, and behavior patterns.
• Proficiency in breed-specific cuts, tailored styling, and grooming norms.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with customers and team.
• Competence in handling pets of various sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduling requires.

Work Environment

Work is primarily indoors within the grooming salon, involving frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Duties may occasionally require using steps or equipment for cleaning and maintenance. The salon can be noisy and wet, requiring stamina and attention to safety.
