Role Overview
We seek a new graduate to join as a Software Systems Design Engineer focusing on blockchain security and protocol engineering. This position involves working at the confluence of cryptography, distributed systems, and adversarial security, aimed at redesigning and securing wallets and core blockchain systems against protocol-level and architectural threats. This role is ideal for individuals who approach problems like an attacker but design with an engineer's mindset.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed analysis and evaluation of prominent blockchain protocols such as Ethereum/EVM, Cosmos SDK, Substrate, and Solana.
- Redesign wallet systems based on robust cryptographic principles to enhance security.
- Devise and implement hardening and mitigation strategies addressing known and potential protocol vulnerabilities affecting wallet systems.
- Lead security-oriented re-architecture and maintain existing software systems ensuring security requirements are central to design.
- Incorporate security assumptions into system architecture, creating defense-in-depth mechanisms that diminish single points of failure and clarify trust boundaries.
- Research emerging blockchain attack methods and defenses, converting findings into practical system enhancements.
- Engage in or lead security audits for internal and open-source systems, facilitating remediation and structural improvement.
Required Experience and Skills
- Master’s degree (preferred) or above in Computer Science, Cryptography, or Network/Cyber Security; open to new graduates or those with up to two years of professional experience.
- Expertise in at least one systems programming language such as Java, Go, Rust, or C++.
- In-depth understanding of distributed system design, concurrency, and performance optimization.
- Awareness of security principles including threat modeling, secure coding, penetration testing perspective, and supply chain security.
Preferred Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of the full technology stack of at least one leading blockchain platform, covering networking, consensus, execution, and storage layers.
- Strong understanding of smart contract security and common vulnerabilities.
- Applied knowledge of public-key cryptography, hash functions, zero-knowledge proofs, and threshold signatures with awareness of their risks in practical systems.
Key Personal Attributes
- Pervasive security mindset functioning on a zero trust basis, with methodical reasoning about potential attack surfaces.
- Ability to abstract complex and ambiguous security requirements into clear, verifiable architecture and modular system designs.
- Strong engineering craftsmanship with capability to advocate and foster a security culture via documentation, code reviews, and technical presentations.
