Role Overview
We seek a Graduate Accountant to join our supportive and cooperative Southport team. In this role, you will assist experienced professionals delivering high-standard accounting, taxation, and advisory services to a varied clientele. This position presents an excellent opportunity to develop your technical capabilities, gain practical experience, and build a solid career foundation in public practice. Working closely with senior staff and managers, you will engage in diverse client and compliance tasks while benefiting from ongoing mentorship, training, and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements and income tax returns under senior staff guidance.
- Assist with Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).
- Support tax compliance activities and apply Australian tax legislation practically.
- Help with tax planning by gathering data and performing preliminary analysis.
- Aid lodgement procedures and communicate with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
- Create client correspondence and contribute to client meetings.
- Manage allocated responsibilities to ensure accurate and timely completion.
- Promote a cooperative team culture and proactively seek feedback.
- Participate in training, career development programs, and continuous learning opportunities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is either a recent graduate in accounting or nearing completion of their degree, eager to begin their career in a professional and supportive setting. You should be enthusiastic about learning, collaborative in teamwork, and motivated to enhance both technical expertise and client service skills.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in Accounting or a related field, completed or near completion.
- Basic understanding of Australian tax legislation.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Familiarity with accounting software like Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks is advantageous.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Self-driven approach to professional growth and learning.
- Capability to take ownership of work and balance competing tasks.
