About the Role

Popley & Sons Jewellers Pvt. Ltd., a reputed name in luxury jewellery since 1927, is seeking an experienced Gold Appraiser to join their Mumbai locations at Bandra West & Opera House. The role requires proficiency in assessing the purity and value of gold items and involves interaction with customers while adhering strictly to company policies and security measures.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate gold ornaments, coins, bars, and bullion to determine purity, weight, and market worth.
• Conduct precise gold purity tests utilizing XRF machines (Fischer preferred), touchstone and acid testing methods, and perform gold melting and assaying when needed.
• Weigh gold accurately before and after testing with calibrated electronic scales to ensure precision.
• Calculate final gold valuation incorporating purity, net weight, wastage, and current market prices.
• Maintain meticulous documentation for all processes, prepare valuation reports, and update ERP system records accordingly.
• Provide clear explanations and address customer inquiries professionally to ensure trust and transparency.
• Uphold strict security protocols and confidentiality standards when handling valuable metals.
• Operate and maintain appraisal tools including XRF equipment, melting furnaces, and weighing scales.
• Assist with stock verifications, audits, and other operational duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum education requirement is completion of 12th grade; commerce or jewellery-related certifications are advantageous.
• 1 to 4 years of relevant experience in gold appraising, testing, buying, or loan appraisal within jewellery showrooms, gold buying centers, refineries, or gold loan companies.
• Expertise in XRF testing, preferably with Fischer machines, along with knowledge of touchstone and acid testing techniques.
• Experience in gold melting and precise purity assessment procedures.
• Familiarity with ERP software for documentation and record-keeping.
• Strong numerical aptitude and analytical capabilities with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent understanding of current gold market rates and valuation practices.
• Integrity, honesty, reliability, and trustworthiness in handling precious metals.
• Effective communication skills and ability to interact courteously with customers.
• Capable of working under pressure while maintaining high accuracy standards.

Additional Information

Preferred industry backgrounds include jewellery retail, gold buying centres, gold loan companies, and bullion or precious metals sectors.

The company offers a monthly salary range from ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
