Job description
Job Overview and Responsibilities
This role focuses on supporting mining operations through geological expertise to ensure efficiency and safety. Responsibilities include adherence to health and safety standards, participation in safety training, and fostering a secure work environment. The Geologist will conduct detailed geological and structural mapping and sampling activities at mining sites, assist with data collection and analysis, and oversee site staff such as samplers and spotters. Tasks also involve marking ore, supervising the ROMPAD plan implementation, assisting senior geologists with grade control predictions, planning RC grade control drillings, managing daily site operations, and ensuring sample quality.
The role requires logging RCGC data, coordinating sample dispatches, validating databases, applying geological software for data interpretation, maintaining accurate records, and preparing comprehensive reports. Collaboration with mining engineers and other professionals is essential to enhance mining practices.
Additional Duties
- Compiling weekly geology reports into monthly operation summaries.
- Interpreting drill core logs and data with established geological methods.
- Supporting reconciliation between models, mines, and mills to improve resource models.
- Monitoring and evaluating team members' performance.
- Implementing current industry best practices in geosciences.
- Organizing geological support processes across all mining sites.
Qualifications and Experience
The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree in Geology and have 2 to 3 years of experience in open pit or underground mining operations. Proficiency is required in 3D geological software such as Leapfrog and Surpac, alongside major grade control courses and MS Office. Strong analytical, strategic thinking, problem solving, integrity, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement skills are essential.
