Gardener

Role Overview

Wyre Council is seeking a dedicated Gardener to support the upkeep and presentation of its parks, open spaces, and cemeteries. This permanent position offers a hands-on opportunity to work within a committed team responsible for maintaining the borough's landscaped areas to high standards valued by the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain parks, open spaces, cemeteries, and landscaped areas according to set standards.
• Operate a variety of grounds maintenance tools and equipment including hand tools, portable devices, and ride-on mowers.
• Perform general horticultural and groundskeeping duties throughout the borough.
• Present a professional and uniformed appearance while carrying out tasks.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve service objectives.
• Adhere to safe working practices and promote a positive health and safety culture.
• Undertake additional tasks relevant to the role as needed.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience in maintaining parks, public open spaces, or similar environments.
• Awareness of excellent customer service principles.
• Possession of a full UK driving licence.
• Physical capability to fulfill the job's demands.

• Reliability and consistent quality of service delivery.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• IOSH Working Safely certification or equivalent training.
• Experience using ride-on mowers and other grounds maintenance machinery.
• NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or equivalent substantial experience.
• PA1 & PA6a certifications for pesticide application.
• Knowledge of fine turf and sports pitch maintenance techniques.

Working Conditions and Benefits

• Location at Copse Road Depot, Fleetwood.
• Work hours: 41.5 hours per week during summer (26 weeks) and 32.5 hours per week during winter (26 weeks).
• Competitive salary range of £26,427 to £27,274 annually.
• 24 days of annual leave, increasing up to 29 days with longer service, plus statutory bank holidays.
