About the Role
Q One Inc. is seeking a skilled and imaginative Game Developer specialized in Systems Design to join our team full-time in Abu Dhabi. This mid to senior level position involves crafting engaging gameplay mechanics, designing interactive systems, and programming core game features that enhance player experiences across diverse projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, implement, and sustain gameplay systems such as player controls, combat mechanics, progression, inventories, abilities, quests, and reward frameworks.
- Convert game design concepts and documentation into practical, fun, and balanced gameplay experiences.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including designers, artists, animators, producers, writers, and quality assurance professionals throughout the game development lifecycle.
- Prototype new gameplay features, developing scalable and reusable game systems to optimize performance and player engagement.
- Design and balance player progression paths, in-game economies, leveling mechanics, rewards structures, and attribute systems.
- Analyze gameplay loops, monitor metrics, and incorporate player feedback to refine game dynamics, engagement, and retention.
- Integrate gameplay elements seamlessly with UI, animation, audio, physics, networking, and multiplayer components.
- Debug, profile, and optimize gameplay-related systems ensuring responsiveness and scalability.
- Establish best practices for gameplay programming within the team, participate in code reviews, and maintain comprehensive system documentation.
- Support live operations through updates, patches, balancing adjustments, and feature rollouts post-launch.
- Engage in research of emerging game development tools, trends, and design techniques to innovate and improve existing systems.
- Participate actively in sprint planning, feature estimations, milestone assessments, and cross-disciplinary meetings.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Software Engineering, Interactive Media, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in game development focusing on gameplay programming or systems design.
- Proficient programming skills in languages such as C++, C#, or similar, supported by experience with game engines like Unity, Unreal Engine, or Godot.
- Deep understanding of gameplay mechanics, game loops, player progression systems, economies, and balancing techniques.
- Strong foundation in object-oriented programming, design patterns, and software architecture.
- Expertise in debugging, performance profiling, and optimization strategies.
- Familiarity with version control systems including Git and Perforce.
- Knowledge of multiplayer architectures and networking principles is a plus.
- Experience with live-service or online games and post-launch development adds value.
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities coupled with clear communication for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and dedication to producing high-quality gameplay experiences.
- Ability to manage concurrent priorities, work independently, and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
- Scripting, prototyping, and tool development experience is advantageous.
- Exposure to analytics platforms to interpret player behavior data is preferred.
- A portfolio showcasing game projects, systems design, prototypes, or technical contributions is desirable.
- Relevant certifications or specialized training in game development technologies represent added benefits.
