Forward Deployed Engineer

About the Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at FieldAI, you will play a crucial role in implementing and supporting autonomous systems directly within customer environments. Your responsibilities will span from deploying and integrating the system to continually enhancing its operational performance. This position requires a blend of hands-on engineering and problem-solving, offering a dynamic opportunity to influence the future of autonomy by delivering mission-critical solutions on the ground.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead full-cycle deployment of autonomous systems at customer sites, ensuring they are correctly installed, configured, and thoroughly tested under operational conditions.
• Address and fix technical challenges swiftly to guarantee high system availability and successful mission outcomes.
• Collect and evaluate real-world feedback to identify system improvements and work closely with product and engineering teams to incorporate these enhancements.
• Develop and apply monitoring and diagnostic techniques to maintain long-term system stability and reliability.
• Support customer teams by providing training and guidance, transforming complex technical details into clear, executable procedures.
• Serve as a liaison between customers and internal teams, fostering collaboration across software, hardware, and AI research groups to ensure integrated solution delivery and scalable deployment practices.

Qualifications

• A Master's degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent technical background.
• Between 2 to 3 years of experience in software engineering or systems integration, ideally in the field robotics sector.
• Proven expertise in deploying complex technical systems in real-world field settings.
• Proficiency with programming languages and tools including Python, C++, Git, and ROS.
• Knowledge of Linux operating systems, container technologies, and cloud platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in software, hardware, and networking contexts.
• A proactive approach with the ability to adapt quickly in fast-evolving and uncertain environments.

Additional Desirable Attributes

• Experience managing mission-critical systems in operational environments.
• Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira, Wrike, or Confluence.
• Comfort in engaging directly with customers in urgent and demanding scenarios, translating their needs into technical responses.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technology concepts understandably to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to travel frequently and work on-site as required.
