About the Role
PGG Wrightson Seeds is looking to hire a Forage Agronomist based in Ruakura, Waikato. This full-time position focuses on delivering expert agronomic guidance and assistance to customers concerning diverse forage and pasture topics. The role supports farmers and growers in optimizing the productivity and financial returns from forage and pasture-based farming systems. As a vital contributor to product development and breeding processes, the position involves field-based responsibilities including planning, executing, and reporting on Stage I, II, and III forage trials, facilitating breeding activities, performing statistical analyses, and preparing scientific reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in forage breeding programs
- Carry out general research farm tasks such as spraying, drilling, and yield measurement
- Run field trials and demonstrations that showcase advanced pasture and forage technologies
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to spot new business prospects and nurture customer relationships
- Compile detailed agronomic reports and communicate insights to shape future strategies
- Keep abreast of current agricultural research, trends, and innovations
- Represent the company at industry events, field days, and stakeholder meetings
Qualifications and Skills
- Post-secondary degree in agriculture, agronomy, or a related field
- Familiarity with scientific research methods and principles
- Experience using statistical software such as Genstat and R
- Prior agronomy experience, preferably in farming, seed production, or agri-services industry
- Deep understanding of forage and pasture species, soil science, agronomy, and livestock production systems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of translating technical data into practical guidance
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills
- Valid driver's license and readiness to travel regularly throughout the Waikato region
- Willingness to work outdoors and contribute positively within a small team environment
Compensation and Benefits
The company offers a competitive salary range between NZD 60,000 for entry-level graduates and up to NZD 80,000 for candidates with more experience or qualifications.
