Job description
Overview
The Floor Specialist/Custodian will execute cleaning operations to ensure minimal disruption to facility activities. This role involves manual tasks such as moving objects up to 50 pounds, and performing cleaning duties independently while demonstrating professional behavior.
Key Duties
- Strip and wax floors to maintain surface quality.
- Clean carpets thoroughly to ensure cleanliness and hygiene.
- Perform dusting, mopping, damp mopping, and vacuuming on various floor types.
- Sanitize restrooms, including trash removal, cleaning toilets, urinals, sinks, refilling dispensers, sweeping, mopping, and wiping walls and partitions.
- Clean glass surfaces, stair rails, and walls in corridors and stairwells.
- Wash lighting fixtures and other overhead equipment.
- Inform supervisors about low supplies or equipment malfunctions.
- Buff floors to restore shine and polish.
- Operate designated commercial cleaning machinery safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a neat appearance and adhere to uniform policies.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in required in-service training sessions.
- Assist with snow removal tasks when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including working varied shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications and Skills
- No specific education or training required; however, a high school diploma is preferred.
- Previous janitorial or cleaning experience is advantageous.
- Capable of following oral, written, or sign language instructions accurately.
- Physical ability for fine and gross motor activities including stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Good interpersonal skills with the public, demonstrating tact and courtesy at all times.
- Willingness and aptitude to learn cleaning techniques and operation of equipment according to standards.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks according to daily and weekly schedules while observing safety protocols.
- Government security clearance may be required.
Working Conditions and Supervision
Supervision is intermittent; initiative and sound judgment are necessary to resolve routine work challenges. The role impacts contract success through timely and proper completion of tasks.
