Flood Risk Consultant

Overview

Tetra Tech is seeking a seasoned Flood Risk Consultant to oversee flood risk evaluations that influence planning, design, and permitting outcomes across Ireland. The role is based in Dublin with options for Cork and Galway locations. This senior position involves managing projects related to flood risk, drainage, and water environment assessments across the country.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and produce flood risk assessments, environmental impact assessment (EIA) water chapters, hydraulic modelling reports, and related technical documentation essential for planning and consenting processes.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to develop technically sound, feasible solutions aligned with project requirements.
• Provide mentorship, review, and support to junior team members to enhance overall team capabilities.
• Contribute to high-quality project execution and help standardize and strengthen team technical approaches.
• Engage with clients, planners, and consenting authorities by preparing well-founded technical reports that address flood risk implications for developments and infrastructure.
• Apply and critically evaluate hydrological and hydraulic models (e.g., Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, ICM InfoWorks), ensuring model assumptions and outputs are fit for purpose.
• Work in cooperation with civil, environmental, structural, and other specialists to design flood risk and drainage strategies, incorporating river engineering, Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), and nature-based or catchment-scale solutions.
• Support project management functions, maintaining adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards while fostering trust with clients and colleagues.

Skills and Experience

• Degree in civil, water, environmental engineering, or a closely related field is required.
• Chartered Engineer status or active pursuit thereof is highly desirable.
• Minimum of five years’ professional experience in flood risk management.
• Membership in professional organizations such as Engineers Ireland, CIWEM, or ICE is an advantage.
• Knowledge or experience in GIS, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), SuDS, and nature-based solutions is beneficial.

Working Conditions

• The role is based in Dublin, Cork, or Galway with regular office presence expected to support teamwork and client interaction.
• Hybrid work arrangements combining remote and onsite work are available, considering business and project priorities.
• Travel across Ireland for project and site visits is required.
