Role Overview

The Financial Controller will be the head of the finance department, collaborating closely with the Managing Director and senior leaders. This role requires a hands-on leader who flourishes in a dynamic, entrepreneurial setting, eager to shape the company’s financial direction and contribute strategically at a high level.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all daily financial operations including month-end procedures, management reporting, and compliance with statutory requirements.
• Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models, while tracking financial performance against goals.
• Offer financial and commercial insights to inform pricing strategies, margin management, and retailer negotiation processes.
• Liaise effectively with banks, auditors, tax authorities, and other external parties.
• Supervise payroll, credit control, accounts payable and receivable, and the general ledger functions.
• Ensure adherence to tax regulations including VAT, Corporation Tax, and other statutory obligations.
• Support international expansion efforts by overseeing financial activities across diverse markets and currencies.
• Optimize financial controls and processes to support business scaling and increased operational complexity.
• Act as a strategic partner to the MD and Group CFO, providing financial guidance for key business decisions.

Candidate Profile

• Possesses a recognized accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
• Has over six years of post-qualification experience, preferably within FMCG, food and drink, or other fast-paced commercial industries.
• Combines strong technical accounting expertise with robust commercial understanding.
• Experience in small to medium enterprises or owner-managed companies is highly valued.
• Proficiency with accounting and ERP software systems and advanced knowledge of Excel.
• Exceptional communication skills suited for senior and board-level interaction.
• A proactive, self-driven individual comfortable with both strategic leadership and operational tasks.
