Job description

Overview

Join the Financial Services team at the University of Canterbury based in Christchurch, New Zealand as a Finance Research Administrator. This fixed-term role, running until September 2027, offers 37.5 hours per week onsite and includes excellent leave entitlements and superannuation benefits.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will partner with the Post-award Team to manage the financial operations related to research and consultancy contracts. Your duties encompass invoicing, handling accounts receivable and payable, conducting account reconciliations, managing credit adjustments, and pursuing overdue payments.

You will also support income and expenditure monitoring, prepare financial reports, coordinate the closure of grants, and liaise with both internal colleagues and external partners to resolve financial queries. Working closely with Financial Services and Research and Innovation departments, you'll help ensure seamless delivery of financial processes across the University.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate thrives in financial administration with a strong aptitude for managing financial data and systems. You bring experience in contract administration and financial documentation, coupled with a proactive, collaborative style and the ability to work independently when needed.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience working with financial databases and systems, including invoicing and reporting.
  • NCEA Level 3 or higher qualification in accounting or finance.
  • Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel and proven experience with Oracle financial systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong skills in managing stakeholder relationships and confidently following up on outstanding payments while maintaining professionalism.
