Associate Professor/Professor of Community Nursing

Overview

The University of Canterbury (UC) in collaboration with Nurse Maude is recruiting an Associate Professor or Professor of Community Nursing for a full-time permanent position based in Christchurch, New Zealand. This joint appointment combines the university's academic excellence with Nurse Maude's expertise in community healthcare to advance nursing education, research, and practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead strategic research initiatives that enhance community nursing practice and education, aligning with local, national, and international priorities.
• Drive a robust research program demonstrating excellence via high-quality scholarly publications and successful external funding acquisition.
• Provide academic leadership across UC and Nurse Maude by mentoring researchers and fostering a collaborative research culture.
• Engage actively in teaching, course development, and academic governance within the Faculty of Health and the university.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with healthcare, academic, industry, government, and community stakeholders to promote research translation and impact.

Candidate Profile

• PhD in Nursing, Health, or a related discipline with recognized expertise in community nursing and evidence-based practice.
• Proven record of leading impactful nursing research programs with ample publications and external research funding success.
• Experienced in leading multidisciplinary teams, supervising postgraduate research students, and mentoring across academic and clinical settings.
• Established national/international reputation within nursing, including leadership and collaboration credentials.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate nursing curricula.
• Strong networks across health sectors and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching and cultural competency, particularly respecting tikanga and values of mana whenua Ngāi Tūāhuriri and te reo Māori.

The position holds dual roles within UC and Nurse Maude, fostering a bridge between academic scholarship and community healthcare. The Faculty of Health offers diverse health and sport education programs and research activities, while Nurse Maude is renowned for community-based, person-centered healthcare services throughout New Zealand’s South Island.

Terms and Salary

The role is covered under the Academic Staff Collective Agreement with salary bands as follows:

• Associate Professor: NZD 155,592 to 167,718 per annum
• Professor: NZD 178,257 to 224,115 per annum
