Job description
About Us
Fonterra Te Mātāpuna is a global dairy co-operative owned by New Zealand dairy farmers. We are committed to fostering a workplace where everyone can comfortably be themselves and develop their careers while making a meaningful contribution to a better future.
Farm Source serves as the vital link between Fonterra and our farmer owners, supporting farms and rural communities throughout New Zealand. The Farm Source Finance team delivers commercial insights, challenges constructively, and provides decision support to enhance performance and encourage sound business decisions.
Opportunity Overview
We have two dynamic Finance Business Partner roles within Farm Source:
- Retail Portfolio: Collaborate with the retail business to drive commercial performance, including profitability, pricing, revenue, and cost management.
- Sustainability and Farmer Partnering Portfolio: Deliver financial insight and support for sustainability initiatives and farmer partnerships.
In either capacity, you will build trusted relationships with senior leaders, translating complex financial data into actionable commercial insights. Acting as a strategic advisor, you will ensure financial rigor in planning and investments, providing constructive challenges to promote stronger outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with business leaders on strategic, operational, and commercial decision-making.
- Convert financial and operational data into clear insights, recommendations, and compelling business narratives.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and planning efforts aligned with strategic priorities.
- Analyze performance, profitability, pricing, revenue, costs, and investment opportunities.
- Provide commercial challenges and coaching to enhance business decisions.
- Facilitate financial discussions and stakeholder meetings for major commercial decisions.
- Drive strategic analysis, scenario modelling, investment evaluations, and profit improvement projects.
- Collaborate with Finance teams including Service Hub, Corporate Finance, and Group FP&A to optimize processes, reporting, and decision support.
Candidate Profile
This influential role requires close engagement with the business to understand performance drivers and influence decisions benefiting farmers, customers, and the co-operative.
The successful candidate will be a commercially astute finance professional who enjoys partnering with the business and translating financial data into meaningful actions. You will demonstrate curiosity, resilience, and confidently challenge the status quo while building strong relationships and leading change.
Qualifications and Experience
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline.
- At least six years of experience in finance or related sectors, with strong cross-functional analytical skills.
- Proven ability to partner with senior stakeholders and provide commercial advice.
- Solid commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting expertise.
- Experience with financial modelling, scenario analysis, and data-driven problem solving.
- Capability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Strong skills in influencing, coaching, negotiation, and relationship management.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with finance systems and technologies such as Power BI, SAP Analytics Cloud, or ERP platforms.
- Proactive attitude, personal accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Experience in retail, agribusiness, sustainability, or farmer-facing roles is advantageous; however, your ability to build credibility and deliver pragmatic commercial insights is essential.
