About the Role and Organization
We are looking for motivated Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Telecommunications Technicians or Engineers with practical field experience to join our team. If you have an enthusiasm for working in remote locations and are eager to travel extensively, this role offers a unique opportunity across Australia.
Work Environment
The Observing Operations Hubs are the Bureau of Meteorology's technical operations centers, consisting of eight hubs located in each capital city and Cairns. Staff undertake maintenance across a range of instrumentation networks involving diverse environments and transport modes including 4WD vehicles, planes, boats, and helicopters.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and service rain radars and automatic weather stations (AWS).
- Support upper-air monitoring equipment such as sounding balloons.
- Manage sea level monitoring stations and wave height buoys.
- Oversee satellite ground reception and space weather instrumentation.
- Maintain flood warning and rainfall monitoring systems.
- Work with cooperative observers and volunteer rainfall stations.
- Handle communications, telemetry, and instrumentation systems nationwide.
- Travel nationally to remote and varied locations as part of a dedicated maintenance team.
Training and Development
Comprehensive competency-based, in-house training on all equipment is provided to ensure you are fully equipped with the necessary skills and tools.

Minimum education
Diploma / ITI / Vocational
